Why it's called Entourage and not just Outlook?[edit]
Oct 10, 2016 Currently, we are not able to import Entourage identity into Outlook 2016 directly. As you mentioned above, Outlook for Mac 2011 can import Entourage items. So utilizing Outlook for Mac 2011 as a transit center is a workaround here. However, as far as I know, Microsoft now doesn't offer a trial version of Office for Mac 2011. Then use Entourage to export the OLM file, and then reinstall new Mac OS and get an Office 365 subscription so you can import everything into Outlook 2016. If you were using IMAP, Hotmail or some other server-based email service, and you can live without your 'on my computer' data, then you don't have to revert to Entourage.
Does anyone know why it's called Entourage and not just Outlook? -- stewacide 02:36, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
- Entourage finally looks like a native Mac application. Entourage 2008 was rewritten as a Universal Binary, running equally well on Macs based on Intel and PowerPC chips. For Microsoft’s.
- Jan 09, 2018 However you are using a Mac and Microsoft slime balls that they are do not allow Entourage nor even Outlook on the Mac to create PST files. The only backup function of Entourage is to backup everything absolutely everything in to a single massive olm file.
- They are two distinct products. It's more analogous to Outlook Express than to Outlook, but it's not just a port of Outlook Express to Mac OS X (similar, but not identical). – Ringbang 15:45, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- The article states Entourage is essentially analogous to Microsoft Outlook., so which is it? Is Entourage a program similar to Outlook, a personal information manager that includes an e-mail client, or similar to Outlook Express, a half-assed e-mail client that includes a half-assed Usenet client?Kar98 23:17, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- I used Entourage 2004 for several months before going back to Outlook 2003 (mainly because my PC is a lot faster than my Mac :-) ).. it's definitely a lot closer to Outlook than it is to Outlook Express. Warrens 23:37, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yes they should basically include the same features, but are NOT the same program at all. ~LinuxeristE/L/T 03:58, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

- There is a good article written by a Microsoft MVP on that subject, explaining the history of the two applications [1]76.217.211.246 (talk) 19:15, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Correction of Mac OS version[edit]
Entourage was available for Microsoft Office 2001, which was for OS 8.5 and greater. :: Colin Keigher 04:00, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- For Entourage 2008 the minimum OS required is OS 10.4.9. 76.217.211.246 (talk) 19:17, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Name[edit]
Where is this product ever called Microsoft Office Entourage? The filename is Microsoft Entourage, the about box says Microsoft® Entourage® for Mac, the read me says Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac. I think someone has applied an XP office-style rename to this article at the cost of accuracy. -- Steven Fisher 15:21, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- It got renamed just yesterday. You are right, of course, so I've renamed it back. Warrens 15:30, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Limitations[edit]
Hello all. I came across this article and having to support entourage every day in an corporate environment I thought to expand on the limitations the original author already mentioned but found that it seemed logical to put them in its own section rather than push it in between the parts that talk about it features. I hope it doesn't come across as criticism so I included work arounds to the limitations. I think this will be fair to let people know that Entourage doesn't give the same features as a full blown version of Outlook 2003 using an Exchagne server. Also.. I threw in information on how to access the database repair utility. -James --208.253.80.123 17:22, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Is 'limiations' a good point? This would imply that Entourage is supposed to be a Mac version of Outlook when it addresses a very different market with different needs. It also seems to read as a Windows user has come across it and can't find the same functionality. This is not a limitation as far as Entourage 'out-of-the-box' is concerned. The additional updates since do add extra support for Exchange conectivity when in a Windows environment.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Markrich (talk • contribs) 2006-07-04 12:43:31 (UTC)
I like the content of that section, but I see your point. What about calling it 'Compared with Outlook' or something like that? -- Steven Fisher 15:01, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
POV[edit]
This article seems to be very biased against Entourage. I'm not a fan myself, but this article seems to focus entirely on its limitations and incompatibilities. Even when listing its features, the article begins by stating that it is primarily 'an email application', as opposed to a personal information organizer or whatever they're calling it these days. I would appreciate it if someone could fix this. Thank you! --Evil Eccentric 20:03, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
New section-- Version history[edit]
There needs to be a new section for version history. Those people who own Blackberrys and need (not want) to use Entourage need to know about the versions that came BEFORE 2008, as '08 is effectively 'Broken' as far as BB users of Macs are concerned. 67.220.13.180 (talk) 11:54, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Outlook[edit]
Shouldn't something be added in the sidebar (sorry, i have no idea what that is called) about the sucessor to entourage being Outlook? Jedieaston (talk) 01:15, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Stable release[edit]
How can the Stable release have a date of 2013 when the article says the last version was released in 2008 & replaced in 2010.104.178.189.70 (talk) 05:15, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Remove Office Test Drive
Special Bulletin: Before you install Microsoft Office, you must first remove the Office Test Drive from your computer. Use the 'Remove Office', application to completely remove all Office files. You'll find 'Remove Office' in the Office Additional Tools folder.
Note: Remove Office does not remove your Microsoft User Data folder. (this is the folder where all your mail/data is stored). It does remove any registration keys and preferences for Office.
Pre-Installation Tips
- Read the directions! This includes the download page for the updaters.
- OS X: Quit any applications that are running, including virus-protection applications, all Office applications, Microsoft Messenger for Mac, and Office Notifications, because they might interfere with installation. How to quit Notifications
- Easy way: Disable login items. Log out/in. Hold down the Shift key until startup is complete.
- If you use 'Remove Office', backup your normal file, custom templates and custom dictionary (found in Preferences). Otherwise, “Remove Office” will delete those files.
- Normal file: Note: starting with Office 2004 the Normal template is moved to the MUD folder, but the Templates folder is not moved.
- You'll also need your CD key when you re-install.
- Using 'Remove Office' does not delete your Microsoft User Data folder that contains your email messages.
- 'Remove Office' is different from dragging the MS Office folder to the trash. It deletes invisible files and preferences used by MS Office.
Tips when upgrading Entourage mail:
- Clean up your database before importing
- Export your contacts
- Make a backup of your database
- Empty your Deleted Mail
CD Key/PID/Serial number
Carefully check whether you entered the key correctly. For more help, see here.
If you can't update then Microsoft has probably disabled the CD key in the installer because it has been pirated and spread over the internet. If you have a legitimate copy contact MS Customer Service to get a new key.
Many copies sold on eBay do not come with legitimate CD keys.
If you ever sell your computer you need to be sure to remove your CD key. If not, the next thing you know it will be all over the internet. See below for options to delete the CD Key.
The PID (Product IDentification) code is used to register. Registeration is not required and serves no useful purpose. It will put you on a Microsoft email list.
'Registration' has nothing to do with the operation of the software - unlike the Activation required for MS Windows software. It's little more than a marketing tool.
Aug 17, 2018 1) Select the command in the box at the top. 2) Click inside the Press new keyboard shortcut box. 3) Enter the keys you want to use for the shortcut. 4) Choose if you want to apply the shortcut to all Word documents or only the current one you have open in. To use these shortcuts, you may have to change your Mac keyboard settings to change the Show Desktop shortcut for the key. Arrow Left: Move one character to the left: Arrow Right: Move one character to the right: Option + Arrow Left: Move one word to the left: Option + Arrow Right: Move one word to the right ⌘ + Arrow Up: Move one paragraph up ⌘ + Arrow Down. Some Word for Mac keyboard shortcuts conflict with default macOS keyboard shortcuts. This topic flags such shortcuts with an asterisk (. ). To use these shortcuts, you may have to change your Mac keyboard settings to change the shortcut for the key. Many of the shortcuts that use the Ctrl key on a Windows keyboard also work with the Control key in Office 2016 for Mac. However, not all do. Note: If a shortcut requires pressing two or more keys at the same time, this topic separates the keys with a plus sign (+). Microsoft word hotkeys list.
Resetting your Mac Office Registration number
When you first install Office, you type in your product CD Key, which generates a PID (Product IDentification) code. (a product ID will look like this: 11111-130-0001111-12345. This is used to receive support from Microsoft.) The product key is on a yellow or bright orange sticker on the CD package. This is what is used to install.
- The Home & Student and Student & Teacher versions come with 3 product keys/licenses. This can be used on 3 different computers. This cannot be used in a work environment.
- The Standard version comes with 1 key that can be used on two computers (1 desktop and 1 laptop) but you may not run both at the same time. Close one before you launch the other. e.g. Excel on one, but Word on the other, will still conflict, because they are tracking Office, not any individual program.
If you need to change the CD registration key for any reason, The following options can be used:
- Easy way: launch the Remove Office application in the Additional Tools Folder in your Microsoft Office 2004 folder. After you launch the application. Press the option key at the first dialog window and the button changes its name to read 'Remove License Info Only.'
- Download Mac HelpMate (freeware). Mac HelpMate has an option to De-Serialize Microsoft office. Open the app, authenticate by clicking the lock, click on Clean, then choose De-Serialize Office.
- Quit all Office applications. Trash the files listed below and then re-launch any Microsoft application. Your copy of Office will act as if it has been reinstalled and allow you to enter new serial number and registration information.
- /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 (or X)/Office/
- OfficePID (normally an invisible file) - Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
- Carbon Registration Database
- Office Registration Cache
- Microsoft Office Settings
- /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 (or X)/Office/
- Office for Mac 2008 users: (above methods do not work)
Tip: Download EasyFind to find and trash the invisible OfficePID file (Spotlight won't find invisible system files). Turn on the 'Invisible Files & Folders' option when you search for an item named 'OfficePID'. Select the file in the search results window and choose File > Move to Trash.
Delete these two files on one of the machines:
~:Library:Preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist
where ~ is your home folder, and
HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2008:Office:OfficePID.plist
When you start an Office app, you'll be asked for a CD Key.
If the above fails, please try the following
Please delete

- ApplicationsMicrosoft Office 2008 folder
- Your User FolderLibrary PreferencesMicrosoftOffice 2008
- Reinstall Office
Is there an easy way to do trial and error and change the key if it was already used?
If you look in the Application menu for the About item and display that, it will display the Product ID to you.
If you find two machines on which all but the last five digits match, the same key was used on those two machines.

It won't tell you 'which' key was used, just that the 'same' key was used.

Disable Network check
See the tip posted on MacOSXHints. Office X used port 2222 and now Office 2008 uses 2223 for Network PID Checking. I don't condone software piracy. Use this script only as described in the tip.
